It is good for me . . . (Psalm 119:71 NASB)
I keep hearing what I believe for many is today’s most popular song of praise. The title, words, and message are all simply; “God Is So Good.”
At first, I found myself questioning this simplicity. But it’s also true our God’s goodness is simply beyond our words. Still, we are called to praise Him. If we pause to truly consider the call to “Bless God and forget none of His benefit’s”(Psalm 103) we may ask, how can we ever find adequate words of praise for Him? In such a moment it might well seem impossible to do more than cry out “God is so good to me!”
Every day brings us His blessing and should bring Him our praise. For words, we need to be alert to His presence and working in us. Something missed before may find words. We may even find a reason to praise Him for the difficult!
His goodness extends even to our struggles. Scripture teaches that these may also reflect God’s goodness at work for us! Listen to the psalmist as He sings praises to God’s with these words found in Psalm 119:65-72,
Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word. You are good and do good: . . . It is good for me that I was afflicted.
Our heavenly Father never fails us. Not when all is well, nor when we stumble. In love, He both protects and disciplines. Why? Because He is “SO Good” and loves His children. All praise belongs to Him.
How deeply have you probed His goodness and praised your God?
